In the simplest way of calculating net requirements, one determines the release date of an order by offsetting its due date by the number days of production lead-time that is specified on the item record (Parameters tab). This production lead-time is assumed to be independent from the order size. It can result in positive or negative slacks according to whether the working time on the WO is lower or higher than the available time on the production lead-time.
If one calculates the production lead-time from the routings data, one determines the release date by scheduling backward the WO (and by taking into account a possible safety time which is specified on the Routing window). The corresponding slack is thus equal to this safety time. See below the explanation finite capacity scheduling.
The system carries out the scheduling of the WO starting from the "Loads file " which is recreated by the Scheduling and Work load calculation function.
If the "Lead-time calculated from routings" option is chosen, it is possible to use the existing loads file (if a scheduling has already been carried out and if the work center calendars have not been modified) or to recreate a new loads file.
